Record Board updates!

I wanted to share that the NLU record board has been updated! Over the summer, we scraped the old one off, cleaned the board, re-measured, re-taped and added over 36 new events! A special thanks to Hannah and Tricia Peterson for their engineering minds (a lot more math was involved than I originally thought) and thanks to my son Roman for his spectacular cleaning skills (those swimming muscles came in handy – we needed a lot of elbow grease to get the old adhesive off!)
We added 36+ events because several years ago, USA Swimming decided to add 50’s (fly, back & breast) back into high-level meets such as Sectionals, etc… We have always held the decathlon and offered these events, but we never showcased the record winners. So, in addition to the 50’s, we added the 100 IM for 13 & overs, some mixed gender relays, etc… We had also had previously squeezed some events for the younger kids onto existing lines (when they created the record board over 20 years ago, they never suspected an 8 year old may swim the 200 Back, but someone did!) There are still several holes on the board, which means a record could not be located. Thanks to Coach Danielle for helping me track down all of these new records.
Go check it out and set some goals for the upcoming season! Records are meant to be broken! Records written in black are records set prior to Coach Mike arriving at NLU. There are some that date back to 1998 when we were the Park Hill Swim Club. Records written in red are all of the records broken under Coach Mike’s regime.
In meet recaps we usually draw attention to new records and I wanted to take this time to give a shout-out to our current Hammerheads who now hold records!
13-14 Girls 50 Fly SCY – MaryBeth Clark - 27.52 on 3.8.18
13-14 Boys 50 Fly SCY – Alex Briggs – 26.40 on 9.21.19
15&Over Boys 50 Back SCY – Jack Stanley – 25.31 on 12.16.21
13-14 Girls 50 Fly LCM – Makaila Hayes – 32.34 on 6.3.22
15&Over Girls 50 Fly LCM – MaryBeth Clark – 28.99 on 7.13.22
15&Over Boys 50 Fly LCM – Alex Briggs – 26.96 on 7.13.22
I also wanted to high-light the following relays. In the craziness that was Spring of 2020, the record board was never updated after these 2 relays broke records at Champs. We recently caught our mistake and the board now reflects these 2 records:
13-14 Boys 400 Free Relay SCY – Isaac Dierker, Alex Briggs, Henry Snider and Clay Pilliard –
3:29.98 on 2.27.20
13-14 Boys 400 Medley Relay SCY – Clay Pilliard, Henry Snider, Alex Briggs and Isaac Dierker -
3:54.96 on 2.27.20
